Biography

Linas Adomaitis is a Lithuanian singer, violinist, and composer, known for his versatile contributions to Lithuanian music. He first gained fame in the late 1990s and later represented Lithuania in Eurovision 2004 as part of the duo Linas and Simona, performing the song “What’s Happened to Your Love?”. Over a career spanning more than 25 years, Adomaitis has released numerous albums and remains a prominent figure in the Lithuanian music scene.

Early Life and Education

Linas Adomaitis was born on April 10, 1976, in Kaunas, Lithuania, into a musical family. His father was a professional violinist, which inspired Linas’s own early interest in music. From a young age, he studied violin and attended the Kaunas Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium, a special music school. After graduating, he pursued higher education at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater in Kaunas. There, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in violin performance and a Master’s degree in sound engineering. Adomaitis expanded his studies abroad in Finland and later started teaching music production himself. Today, he is an associate professor at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), where he teaches sound engineering and music production.

Musical Beginnings with L+

While still in college in the mid-1990s, Linas Adomaitis ventured into the pop and R&B genre. In 1997, he formed the band L+, which became Lithuania’s first R&B/pop group. Adomaitis was not only the lead singer and violinist of L+, but also a songwriter and producer for the band. L+ introduced a fresh R&B sound to the Lithuanian music scene, and many of their songs became popular in the late 90s. L+ won the 1997 Bravo Award for Best Debut. During 1997–1999, L+ released several successful albums and hit singles. Songs like “Ar tu ją matei?” (“Have You Seen Her?”) became radio favorites and cultural touchstones of that era. The group’s melodic pop-R&B style and live vocals set them apart from many acts of the time. By the early 2000s, however, the members of L+ decided to pursue separate paths. The band disbanded around 2000.

Early Solo Projects and New Ventures

After L+ ended, Linas Adomaitis focused on his solo career and new musical projects. Adomaitis briefly adopted the stage name “Adoms” and released his first solo album in 2001. Around the same time, he co-founded an R&B/Funk project called UAB Music, which allowed him to experiment with soul and funk influences. In addition to performing, Linas explored other roles in the music industry. In 2002, he became a radio host on Labas FM, where he hosted his own R&B music show called “Kaifas”. He also took on lead roles in Lithuanian stage musicals such as “Žuviaganys” and “Jūratė ir Kastytis”. During these years, Adomaitis participated in many international music festivals and contests, often coming home with awards. Notably, he won prizes at events like the “Voice of Asia 2003” festival and a singing contest in Jūrmala in 2003.

Linas and Simona – Eurovision 2004 Lithuania

In 2004, Linas Adomaitis teamed up with singer Simona Jakubėnaitė to form the pop duo “Linas and Simona.” That year, they earned the honor of representing Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul. Linas and Simona performed the melodic pop song “What’s Happened to Your Love?” on the Eurovision stage. Although the duet did not advance to the final, this performance brought them widespread exposure. After Eurovision, Linas and Simona continued as a duo, touring extensively in Lithuania and abroad. They gave concerts not only at home but also in countries like Malta, Greece, Cyprus, and others.

In 2005, the duo released their debut album “I Love U,” which featured collaborations with notable artists, including Eurovision winner Ruslana. However, by 2007 the duo decided to part ways to pursue individual paths. They capped off their partnership with a live album (“Linas and Simona presents UAB Music Live”) in 2007 before amicably splitting and going separate ways in music.

Solo Career and Musical Achievements

Returning to his solo career, Linas Adomaitis entered a very productive period as a solo artist. In 2008, he released the album “Window of My Soul,” his first major solo album. This album was a significant milestone – Adomaitis himself regards Window of My Soul as one of the most important works of his career. The album’s songs gained airplay, and music videos from the album were featured on MTV channels in the Baltic states. Building on this success, Adomaitis continued to create new music and evolve as an artist.

Linas released the album “Floating to You” in 2012, which became one of his most successful records. To celebrate 15 years on stage, he recorded a special live concert in 2012, released as a DVD and CD set. In 2014, Adomaitis pushed creative boundaries with the album “Laiko mašina” (“Time Machine”). He introduced Laiko mašina with grand concerts in major Lithuanian cities, performing alongside the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra.

Around the same time, he ventured into television by hosting a travel show called “Pasaulis nuostabus” (“The World is Wonderful”) and composed the soundtrack for a documentary film about basketball legend Arvydas Sabonis.

2010-2025

Adomaitis remained very active through the late 2010s. In 2015, he co-organized a large arena concert show with over 200 musicians on stage, demonstrating his ability to produce spectacular live events. In 2016 and 2017, he continued touring, including performances in Germany with a string ensemble, and marked 20 years in music with a special program called “Smėlio laikrodis” (Hourglass).

A major personal and professional highlight came in 2018: Linas and his wife welcomed their first child, a daughter. That same year, he released the album “Vandenynai” (“Oceans”), considered one of the best albums of his career. He embarked on an arena tour with a symphony orchestra to present Vandenynai, playing in Lithuania’s biggest venues. The album’s title track, “Vandenynai,” was a heartfelt song Adomaitis wrote and dedicated to his newborn daughter, and it quickly became his signature song.

By 2022, Linas Adomaitis was celebrating 25 years on stage, a testament to his enduring presence in the music industry. He marked this milestone with a new concert tour titled “Šviesa spindės tamsoje” (“Light Will Shine in the Dark”), a show and song dedicated to his young son Jokūbas.

Personal Life and Family

Linas is married to Irma Adomaitienė. The couple enjoys a close partnership both in life and in creative pursuits. They even purchased a countryside homestead together, which became a peaceful family retreat away from the city. Linas and Irma have two children. In 2018 their daughter Saulė was born, and a few years later they welcomed a son named Jokūbas.

One distinctive aspect of Adomaitis’s life is his role in education. Drawing from his own studies in sound engineering, he became a teacher and mentor for young musicians. Linas Adomaitis holds the title of docent (associate professor) and teaches at KTU, sharing his knowledge of audio engineering with students.

In addition, he has engaged in charitable projects – for instance, he produced a children’s audio fairy tale album in 2014 to raise funds for orphaned infants. This blend of artistic dedication, family values, and community involvement has shaped Adomaitis’s public image as not just a performer, but a well-rounded contributor to Lithuanian culture.
