Biography

Ziferblat is a Ukrainian art rock band formed in Kyiv in 2015 by twin brothers Danylo and Valentyn Leshchynskyi, later joined by drummer Fedir Khodakov. The band’s name, meaning “clock face” in German, reflects their artistic sensibility. They are known for their eclectic musical style, blending elements of art rock, progressive pop, and electronic music, and for their emphasis on visual storytelling and literary references in their work.

In 2017, Ziferblat released their debut EP, Kinoseans (“Cinematic Session”), marking their entry into the Ukrainian indie music scene. Their first single, “Vnochi” (“At Night”), released in 2019, gained them wider attention, especially after their performance on the Ukrainian edition of X-Factor that same year. In 2022, they released the single “Zemlya” (“Earth”), accompanied by a music video that resonated with audiences. That year, they also released “Dlya choho ty pryyshla?” (“Why Did You Come?”) and “Dysko-Fanko Terapiya” (“Disco-Funk Therapy”), showcasing their evolving sound.

In April 2023, Ziferblat released their debut full-length album, Peretvorennya (“Transformation”), which solidified their status in the Ukrainian music scene. The album received critical acclaim for its innovative sound and thematic depth. In September 2023, the band won the Muzvar Award in the category of “Best New Names in Alternative Music,” recognizing their contributions to the genre.

Ziferblat’s journey with Ukraine’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, known as Vidbir, began in 2023 when they were longlisted but did not make the final selection. In 2024, they returned to Vidbir with the song “Place I Call Home,” finishing in second place behind Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil. Undeterred, the band competed again in Vidbir 2025 with the song “Bird of Pray.” On February 8, 2025, they won the competition, securing the opportunity to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.

“Bird of Pray,” released on January 24, 2025, is a bilingual song in Ukrainian and English that blends atmospheric rock with poignant lyrics. The song serves as a metaphor for hope and resilience, reflecting on the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine. The band’s performance aims to convey a message of unity and perseverance to both national and international audiences.
