Tonina Torrielli is an Italian singer. She was especially successful in the 1950s. In the early 1950s she worked in a candy factory in Novi Ligure when she won the Voci Nuove competition in 1955. This gave her the right to participate in the Festival di Sanremo where she became second with “Amami se vuoi”. It meant that she could participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 1956 in Lugano. A year later she became third at Sanremo with “Scusami”, a duet with Gino Latilla. In that year, one of her performances went completely wrong: some spoke of tension, others of poor preparation.
Torrielli participated in the San Remo Festival almost every year until 1963. However, a victory was not there for her. In 1965, at the age of 31, she decided to say goodbye to showbiz. Together with her husband she started a record store in Turin, which they closed in 2003 after almost 40 years.
In the 1990s we saw Tonina Torrielli a few times back in the spotlight in so-called “revival” programs. In 2008 she performed in the tv show “I migliori anni” and in 2011 in the show “Mattina in famiglia”, where she paid tribute to the very first San Remo winner, Nilla Pizzi.
