Biography

Susanna Marie Cork, professionally known as SuRie, is a British singer and songwriter born on February 18, 1989, in Harlow, Essex, England. Raised in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, she began her musical journey at a young age, learning piano at three and composing songs by twelve. SuRie pursued classical music studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she trained in piano, oboe, and voice. Her early performances included appearances at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, and St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. As a child soloist, she performed for the then Prince of Wales.

In 2015, SuRie participated in the Eurovision Song Contest as a backing vocalist and dancer for Belgian artist Loïc Nottet, who achieved fourth place with the song “Rhythm Inside.” She returned to Eurovision in 2017 as the musical director for Belgium’s entry “City Lights,” performed by Blanche, which also secured fourth place.

SuRie’s solo career gained prominence in 2016 with the release of her debut album “Something Beginning With…”. In February 2018, she won the UK’s national selection show “Eurovision: You Decide” with the song “Storm,” earning the opportunity to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. During the grand final on May 12, 2018, her performance was interrupted by a stage invader who seized her microphone. Despite the disruption, SuRie completed her performance and declined the offer to perform again, expressing pride in her original rendition. She finished in 24th place with 48 points.

Following Eurovision, SuRie continued her musical endeavors, releasing her second studio album “Dozen” in 2019. In 2020, she released the EP “Rye,” and in 2023, she unveiled her third studio album “Building A Woman.” Throughout her career, SuRie has also provided backing vocals for artists like Chris Martin and Will Young, and held residencies in jazz lounges across London.
