ESC Entries:Ik ben verliefd (sha-la-lie) (2010)

Sieneke Clasina Gerdina Peeters, born on April 1, 1992, in Nijmegen, is recognized in the Dutch music scene as a singer. Her claim to fame was representing the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010.

Raised in a tightly-knit household alongside her parents and younger brother, Sieneke was passionate about music and dance from an early age, often performing at various events across the country. It was during a performance in Dordrecht that she caught the attention of Marianne Weber.

Sieneke’s music career took a significant step forward in 2007 with the release of her self-published CD, “It’s my dream,” featuring covers of six 1980s hits. Alongside her music career, she pursued a hairdressing course at the ROC Nijmegen.

Her breakthrough came in 2010 when she competed in the National Song Contest with the song “Ik ben verliefd (sha-la-lie),” penned by Pierre Kartner. Winning the contest in a unique fashion—selected by Kartner after a tie in both jury and public votes—she earned the right to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo. Unfortunately, she did not make it to the final, continuing a streak of Dutch artists failing to qualify for six consecutive years. Sieneke placed 14th in her semi-final round, gathering 29 points.

Following Eurovision, Sieneke’s endeavors included participating in the SBS6 ice skating show “Sterren Dansen op het IJs” in 2011, where she claimed the fourth spot. Her professional relationship with Marianne Weber concluded in August of the same year. In 2015, she appeared on RTL 5’s “Shopping Queens VIPS,” securing fourth place.

More recently, in 2021, Sieneke ventured into reality TV again as a contestant on the 21st season of “Expeditie Robinson” on RTL 4, where she was the fourth to be eliminated, finishing 23rd overall. Additionally, she showcased her vocal talents as a secret singer on the show “Secret Duets” the same year.

In 2022, Sieneke scored a hit with “Vaya Con Dios”, a song in duet with Frans Bauer.
