Biography

Saskia & Serge are a Dutch duo. As Trudy & Ruud they won talent show ‘Cabaret der onbekenden’ in 1967. Two years later they changed their names into Saskia & Serge. It was the same year when they married.
In 1970, Saskia & Serge took part in the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Spinnewiel”. Although they were the favourites of the international expert jury, the Dutch experts rejected it and they became 2nd. In the same year their debut album was released. They had their first hit with “Zomer in Zeeland”. In 1971, they were chosen by Dutch tv to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest. They became 6th. They released a total of six albums with Dutch songs, but did not really apply to a huge audience. In 1975 they decided to change and perform country music. Immediately they scored two hits: “We’ll give you everything” and “Don’t tell me stories”. The duo even performed in Nashville and had a hit in the USA with “Jambalaya”. After another hit in 1978, “Battle of Sally Ann”, they changed their style again. With the pop song “Mama, he’s a soldier now” they scored their biggest hit.
In 1992, the duo started singing in Dutch again and released the single “Als je zachtjes zegt: ik hou van jou”. They released several other albums, the last one being “Mooie liedjes” in 2008. However, the duo still performs.
