About
Biography
Hind Laroussi Tahiri, known professionally as Hind, is a Dutch singer born on December 3, 1984, in Gouda, Netherlands. She is of Moroccan and Dutch descent.
Hind began performing publicly at the age of eight, participating in various school music shows and taking singing lessons. Her talent led to a role in the contemporary theatre group Tracks. She gained national attention in 2002 by reaching the finals of the Soundmixshow, where she imitated Vanessa Williams. The following year, she participated in the first season of the Dutch talent show Idols, finishing in third place.
In 2003, Hind released her debut album, Around the World, which showcased a blend of pop and R&B with influences from Portuguese and Arabic music. The album sold over 40,000 copies, earning her an Edison Award for Best New Dutch Artist in 2004.
Her second album, Halfway Home, was released in 2005, featuring a style she described as “Arabpop” due to its Arabic musical influences.
In 2008, Hind represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade with the song “Your Heart Belongs to Me.” Despite her performance, she did not advance past the semi-final stage.
In late 2009, Hind embarked on a crowdfunding campaign through Sellaband, successfully raising €40,000 in just 11 days to fund her next album. This initiative made her the fastest-funded artist on the platform at that time. The album, titled Crosspop, was released in 2010 and showcased a fusion of various musical genres. Produced by Steve Power, known for his work with artists like Robbie Williams, the album debuted at number eight on the Dutch Album Top 100 chart, marking her highest chart position to date.
Seeking to reach a broader audience and address pronunciation challenges with her first name, Hind rebranded herself as Laroussi. In 2015, she made a significant move to Los Angeles, aiming to expand her musical horizons and collaborate with international artists. This transition led to collaborations with renowned producers who had previously worked with artists like Bruno Mars.
In 2019, Laroussi released the single “Lost,” which achieved notable success by reaching the fourth position on the U.S. Billboard charts. This accomplishment marked a significant milestone in her career, highlighting her ability to resonate with audiences beyond the Netherlands.
Continuing her musical journey, Laroussi released the Unveiled EP on February 21, 2025. This latest work reflects her ongoing evolution as an artist and her commitment to blending diverse musical influences.
