Maria Elena Kyriakou is a Greek Cypriot singer. She was born on January 11, 1984, in Larnaca, Cyprus, and has been living there ever since. She has three siblings: a brother named Kyriakos Pavlou and two sisters. At the age of 13, her mother enrolled her in a music school. After a few years, she studied philosophy at the University of Ioannina, and during her first year, she received a proposal from Giannis Ploutarchos, which she rejected as she wanted to continue her studies. After two years at the University of Ioannina, she decided to return to Cyprus and pursued her studies at the University of Cyprus. After graduating, she established her own tutorial center. In 2011, her mother suggested that she try her luck on Greek Idol, but she declined.
Maria Elena Kyriakou auditioned for The Voice of Greece at the age of 29. In the final, she performed her own song, “Dyo Egoismoi,” and a duet with her coach on the song “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough).” When she advanced to the second round with Areti Kosmidi and Lefteris Kintatos, she sang “Because of You,” the song she had performed in the blind auditions. Maria Elena Kyriakou won the first season and received a record deal with Universal Music Greece.
Maria Elena Kyriakou represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 with the song “One Last Breath”. The song qualified for the final, where it ranked 19th with 23 points. After Eurovision, she released the singles “Mia anapnoi”, “Otherside” and “Choris Elena”.
After Eurovision, Maria Elena kept on performing on live stages.
