Biography

Adolf “Dado” Topić was born on 4 September 1949 in Siverić, near Drniš, in the People’s Republic of Croatia, then part of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia. He spent his early years in Nova Gradiška, where he began his musical journey.

In the late 1960s, Topić started his career as a guitarist and vocalist in local bands, including Đavolji Eliksiri and Dinamiti. In 1969, he became the lead vocalist of the progressive rock band Korni Grupa, also known as The Kornelyans. He remained with the band until 1971.

In 1971, Topić founded the progressive rock band Time in Zagreb. The original lineup included Vedran Božić (guitar), Tihomir “Pop” Asanović (keyboards), Mario Mavrin (bass guitar), Ratomir “Ratko” Divjak (drums), and Branislav “Lambert” Živković (piano and flute). Time released their self-titled debut album in 1972, followed by “Time II” in 1975 and “Život u čizmama sa visokom petom” in 1976. The band disbanded in 1977, after which Topić embarked on a solo career.

As a solo artist, Topić released several albums, including “Neosedlani” in 1979, “Šaputanje na jastuku” in 1980, and “Otok u moru tišine” in 2001. He also collaborated with various artists and bands, such as Smak and Leb i Sol. In 1983, he recorded the album “Vodilja” with the Slovenian band Pepel in Kri. In 2008, he released the album “I taka nataka” with the Macedonian band Leb i Sol.

Topić participated in music festivals, including Etnofest Neum in 1997 with the song “Na te mislim” and again in 2008 with “Nema prodaje”.

In 2007, Topić, alongside the band Dragonfly, represented Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki with the song “Vjerujem u ljubav”. They performed in the semi-final on 10 May 2007, finishing 16th with 54 points and did not advance to the final.

In 2008, he released the live album “Dado Topić Live in Kerempuh”, capturing a performance at the Kerempuh Theatre in Zagreb. In 2009, he released the studio album “Apsolutno sve”, featuring eleven tracks.

Between 2015 and 2025, Topić continued to release music, including live recordings and singles. In 2015, he released the single “Tri Boje Zvuka (Live at RTS Studio 8)”. In 2021, he released “Živi sa njim”, followed by “Samo Za Nju” in 2022. In 2024, he released the singles “Božićna želja” and “Da Li Znaš Da Te Volim”.
