What happened last week in the Eurovision Universe?

It was a busy week in the Eurovision Universe again. Several new songs were chosen, Poland on Friday, Armenia on Sunday and the rest of the countries on Saturday:

Other things that happened last week:

Tuesday, 11 February

The week began with the much-anticipated Festival di Sanremo, which officially kicked off on this day. This year, 29 artists took the stage in the prestigious Italian contest, including Francesca Michielin, Francesco Gabbani, Massimo Ranieri and Achille Lauro.

At the same time, another significant development took place. The EBU approved Malta’s entry, “Kant”. The title, which directly translates to “singing” in Maltese, carries a deeper meaning that allows for different interpretations.

Wednesday, 12 February

Midweek brought exciting news for Eurovision fans: a new batch of tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, will go on sale on March 27. Those who previously signed up via Ticketcorner.ch but missed out on tickets in the initial sales phase of late January will now have another chance when sales open at 12:00 CET.

In addition, it was announced that Laura Thorn will take the stage at Eurovision in Concert, the highly anticipated pre-party set to take place in Amsterdam on 5 April.

Friday 14 February

As the weekend approached, more pre-party announcements surfaced. The Greek pre-party was officially scheduled for 14 March in Thessaloniki. Shkodra Elektronike and Dinamiss — both finalists in the Greek national selection — already confirmed to perform.

That same day, Germany officially launched its national selection, “Chefsache ESC 2025”, which will be broadcast on RTL. Fans can stay up to date with daily updates on this site whenever a show airs.

Meanwhile, anticipation continued to build in the Netherlands as it was confirmed that Claude will reveal his Eurovision entry on 27 February.

Several artists were announced for the Nordic Party, which is set to take place on 22 March in Oslo. Among those confirmed are KeiiNO, Queentastic (Melodi Grand Prix), Vidar Villa (Melodi Grand Prix), and Gunilla Persson (Melodifestivalen).

Saturday 15 February

The spotlight then shifted back to Italy, where the grand final of the Festival di Sanremo took place.

Sunday 16 February

By Sunday, the results were in: Olly emerged victorious at Sanremo 2025 with his song “Balorda nostalgia”. While Sanremo winners traditionally get the first opportunity to represent Italy at Eurovision, Olly has not yet made his decision.

Before the festival, all competing artists must inform RAI whether they are willing to participate in Eurovision if they win. This ensures that, during the winner’s press conference, they can immediately answer the crucial question: “Are you going to Eurovision?” Afterwards, it appeared that Olly has requested more time to decide, and RAI has given him a week to make up his mind.

It was a busy week in the Eurovision Universe again. And it’s gonna be a busy week next week:
