Biography

Sergio Endrigo was an Italian singer and songwriter. He made his debut in 1959. He participated in the contest Burlamacco d’Oro  in the same year. Two years later he participated in the Diano Marina Festival. However, his real breakthrough came in 1962 with the song “Io che amo solo te”, his first hit. In the same year, he released his first album. In this same period he married Lula Bartolocci. In 1965, they had a daughter named Claudia.
In 1965 he appeared in Italian and European cinemas with films “Questi Pazzi Pazzi Italiani” and “008 Operazione Ritmo”.
In 1966, he took part in the Festival di Sanremo for the first time. He was there in 1967 again, and in 1968 he won the contest with the song “Canzone per te”. He also represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Marianne”. In 1969, he became 3rd in Sanremo. Also in 1970, 1971. 1973, 1976 and 1986 he participated in the contest. He never won it anymore.
In 1968, Sergio and his wife Lula recorded some children’s songs. It resulted in an album with children’s songs in 1972. He kept on performing and making albums until a last tour through Cuba in 2000. Sergio Endrigo died in Rome on 7 September 2005 following a lung cancer that had been diagnosed a few months earlier.
