Biography
Ruslan Alekhno, born on October 14, 1981, in Bobruysk, Belarus (then part of the Byelorussian SSR), is a prominent Belarusian-Russian singer. His musical career began to flourish in the early 2000s.
Alekhno gained widespread popularity after winning the second season of “Narodniy Artist,” the Russian equivalent of the “Pop Idol” series, in 2004. This victory launched his professional music career, opening doors to the Russian entertainment scene and allowing him to collaborate with several renowned artists. His success was quickly followed by the release of his debut album, establishing him as a notable figure in Eastern Europe’s pop and rock music scenes.
In 2008, Ruslan Alekhno represented Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, performing the song “Hasta la Vista.” He missed qualifying for the final, finishing 17th in his semi-final.
In 2012, Alekhno embarked on a new creative phase, releasing the song “Ne zabyt'” (“Can’t Be Forgotten”), which received airplay on various radio stations. He also produced a music video for the track, signaling his ongoing commitment to his music career. This period marked a resurgence in his artistic endeavors, leading to the development of a new show.
In May 2013, Alekhno released the album “Nasledie” (“Heritage”), a collection of renowned Russian songs from the World War II era. He dedicated this work to all World War II veterans, including his grandparents.Â
Alekhno’s versatility was further showcased in 2014 when he collaborated with Russian singer Valeriya on the single “Serdtse iz stekla” (“Heart of Glass”). The accompanying music video, released in the spring of 2014, highlighted his ability to blend his vocal style with other artists, expanding his musical repertoire. ​
In 2015, Alekhno demonstrated his adaptability and performance skills by winning the television show “Odin v odin!”—the Russian adaptation of “Your Face Sounds Familiar.” This victory showcased his talent for impersonation and entertainment, broadening his appeal to a wider audience.
Alekhno’s contributions to Russian culture were formally recognized on May 26, 2013, when the International Academy of Public Recognition honored him with an award for his role in developing Russian culture.Â
In 2019, Alekhno participated in the Russian version of “The Voice.” During the blind auditions, he performed Jaak Joala’s “Podberu muzyku” but did not advance, as none of the coaches turned their chairs. This outcome sparked discussions in the Belarusian media, reflecting his continued relevance in the music industry.
