Biography

Marco Mengoni (Ronciglione, 25 December 1988) is an Italian singer-songwriter.
 

Mengoni was Born in Ronciglione, Viterbo. At the age of 14 he enrolled in a singing school and his teacher decided to include him in a vocal quintet with which he performed in piano bars and clubs. At the age of 16 he began his solo career, performing covers and his own songs  in small clubs. At the age of 19 he moved to Rome. He started working in recording studios as a sound engineer and programmer.

In 2009 Marco took part in the X-Factor Italy. He managed to win the contest securing a contract with Sony Music, as well as the right to participate in the Artists section at the Sanremo Festival 2010. He also received the Critics Award, awarded by a jury of journalists and radio speakers.

On December 3, the single “Dove si vola” was released. The song debuted at the first position in the Italian charts. One day later, his first EP “Dove si vola” was released, which obtained the first platinum record.

The song Marco performed in San Remo was called “Credimi ancora”. He finished 3rd.  Subsequently, the single was awarded platinum.

Also in February, in the midst of the Sanremo event, the second EP “Re matto” was released, which made its debut directly in first place in the official FIMI sales ranking, a position it maintained for four consecutive weeks. During the summer of 2010 Mengoni hasa a Re matto tour.

The second single from the EP is “Stanco (Deeper Inside)”. He won the Man of the Year award at the 2010 TRL Awards, assigned by an internal jury of the broadcaster and MTV Italy. He also won two Wind Music Awards.

On October 1st, a new version of the song “In un giorno qualunque”, also certified as platinum, enters radio rotation. Also this record debuted directly at the first position of the official FIMI sales chart.

Mengoni won in the Best Italian Act category of the MTV Europe Music Awards 2010. 

In 2011 Marco received 3 platinum Wind Music Awards, while in the same year the “Mad Box” was published in a limited edition, a product exclusive sale on the web and for only one month. On May 31, 2011, the second and last single from “Re matto live” was released, entitled “Questa notte”.

On September 2, 2011 the song “Solo (Vuelta al ruedo)” was released. The album “Solo 2.0” debuted, like the two previous works, directly in first place in the FIMI Album Ranking. The record was followed by “Tanto il resto cambia” and “Dall’inferno”. In November 2011 the Solo tour 2.0 started. The album itself received th egold status.

In January 2012, Marco is engaged in the dubbing of the animated film in 3D Lorax – Il guardiano della foresta where he voices one of the characters. On April 24 of the same year the third EP “Dall’inferno” was released. In the same period he received a TRL Award in the Superman category.

In 2013, Marco Mengoni took part in the Festival Di Sanremo for the second time. This time he managed to win the contest with the song “L’essenziale”. One week after its publication, L’essenziale debuted at the first position of the Top Singles and was subsequently certified quadruple platinum by FIMI for having reached the threshold of 120,000 copies sold. For winning the Festival Di Sanremo, Mengoni also had the first choice of representing Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest. He accepted it, represented Italy and reached the 7th place. On March 19, 2013 Mengoni released his second studio album “Pronto a corre”, which debuted at the top of the Italian album chart, also obtaining a nomination for the World Music Award 2013 as World’s Best Album .

Mengoni also made the soundtrack of the film Left Passion, released on April 18, in which he reinterpreted Giorgio Gaber’s 2001 song “Destra-Sinistra”. In October 2013 Mengoni won the award for Best Italian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2013; on 6 November the concert film Pronto a corre – Il viaggio was screened, to which he made followed by the triple box set of the same name, released on November 12. On December 1, the EP “Natale senza regali” was released, initially made available for free on the iTunes Store on the occasion of the 12 days of gifts promotion launched by Apple, while two days later it was released on the iTunes Store.On 2 December 2013, the video clip of L’essenziale won the Roma Videoclip Award. At the end of 2013, the Essenziale Tour was also awarded the Best Show Pepi Morgia 2013 and the Best Tour at the OnStage Awards 2013. 

In January 2014 he created for the Spanish market the song “Incomparable”, a Spanish-language re-adaptation of L’essenziale.  On March 14, the fifth and last single from “Pronto a correre” was released, titled “La valle dei re”. Mengoni was awarded Best Italian singer during the annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. In June, at the 2014 MTV Awards, the singer-songwriter won awards in no less than 4 categories. 

On 21 November 2014 the new single “Guerriero” was released, which anticipated the release of Mengoni’s third studio album, entitled “Parole in circolo”. The album was released on 13 January 2015. The album was certified platinum one week after the release, simultaneously with the certification of “Guerriero” as triple platinum. Two more singles from “Parole in circolo” were released. On 16 October 2015, the release of the single “Ti ho voluto bene veramente” was released. It was the first song from the singer-songwriter’s fourth album, entitled “Le cose che non ho”. The album was published on 4 December.

On February 19, 2016, the album “Liberando palabras” was released exclusively in Spain. It was the Spanish-language edition of “Parole in circolo” anticipated by the single “Invencible”. On November 25 of the same year, the live album “Marco Mengoni Live” came out. It included the singles “Sai che” and “Ricorderai l’amore (Remember the Love)”.

On October 19, 2018, Marco Mengoni simultaneously released the singles “Volio” and “Buona vita”, which anticipated the fifth studio album “Atlantico”, released on the following November 30. On the same day he released the third single “Hola (I Say)”, in collaboration with Tom Walker. On April 5, 2019, he released his fourth single “Muhammad Ali”.

On December 3, 2021, the artist made available the sixth studio album “Materia (Terra)”, anticipated between June and October of the same year by the singles “Ma stasera”  and “Cambia un uomo”. The album represents the first chapter of a trilogy of albums conceived by the artist. Subsequently, the artist released the singles “Mi fiderò”, which reached the top 20 of the Top Singles, and “No Stress”, released in June 2022.

On October 7, 2022 Mengoni released the second chapter of the trilogy, Materia (Pelle). In 2023, Marco Mengoni won the Festival di Sanremo for a second time, this time with the song “Due vite”. He represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest with that song. He ended up in 4th place.
