Biography
KAJ is a Finnish-Swedish music and comedy group originating from Vörå, Ostrobothnia, Finland. Formed in 2009, the trio consists of Kevin Holmström, Axel Åhman, and Jakob Norrgård, whose first name initials form the group’s name. They are renowned for their humorous performances and songs, primarily delivered in the Vörå dialect of Finland Swedish, a variety that has preserved some archaic features of the language.
KAJ’s discography includes several albums, such as Professionella Pjasalappar (2012), Lokalproducerat Pjas (2014), Kom ti byin (2016), Gambämark (2018), Botnia Paradise (2021), and Karar i arbeit (2024).
In addition to their albums, KAJ has produced musicals like Gambämark (2018) and Botnia Paradise (2021), both staged at the Wasa Theatre. Their engaging performances and unique style have earned them recognition, including being named Honorable Ostrobothnians of the Year in 2015.
In 2025, KAJ gained widespread attention by participating in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen with their song “Bara bada bastu,” a celebration of Finnish sauna culture. The song is characterized by its epadunk style and is performed in the Vörå dialect, with some Finnish expressions, including the expletive “perkele.” Their entry stood out as the first song sung entirely in Swedish to represent Sweden since 1998.
Throughout the competition, KAJ’s performances were well-received, leading them to win Melodifestivalen 2025 with a total of 164 points, narrowly surpassing previous Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw. This victory granted them the opportunity to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
