Biography
Edward Joseph Friel, known as Eddie Friel, was born in 1962 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He pursued a Bachelor of Music degree and began his career as a music teacher in 1986. After a year of teaching, he decided to follow his passion for performing and composing music. He played piano in local venues across Europe and Canada and toured with Van Morrison, contributing to the 1991 album Hymns to the Silence .
In 1995, Eddie represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin with the song “Dreamin’,” written by Richard Abbott and Barry Woods. The song finished 14th with 44 points, ending Ireland’s three-year winning streak in the competition .
Eddie continued his music career, releasing the single “Missing You Tonight” in 1997 and the album My Old Cufflinks in 2012 . He was known for his soulful voice and heartfelt songwriting.
