Biography
Peter René Baumann, known professionally as DJ BoBo, was born on January 5, 1968, in Kölliken, Switzerland. He began his career in the mid-1980s as a DJ in Swiss nightclubs, achieving early recognition by securing second place in the Swiss DJ Championships in 1986. His initial foray into music production led to the release of his first single, “I Love You,” in 1989.
DJ BoBo’s breakthrough came in 1992 with the hit single “Somebody Dance with Me,” which topped charts in Switzerland and Sweden and reached the top five in several other European countries. This success was followed by a series of popular Eurodance tracks, including “Keep on Dancing,” “Take Control,” and “Everybody,” solidifying his reputation in the European music scene.
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, DJ BoBo released multiple successful albums, such as “Dance with Me” (1993), “There Is a Party” (1994), and “Planet Colors” (2001). His collaboration with Irene Cara on the track “What a Feeling” in 2001 achieved significant chart success. In 2003, his rendition of “Chihuahua” became a major hit, especially in France and Spain.
In 2007, DJ BoBo represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Vampires Are Alive.” Although the entry did not advance to the finals, it garnered attention and added to his international profile. He continued to produce music and tour extensively, releasing albums like “Fantasy” (2010), “Circus” (2014), and “Mystorial” (2016), each accompanied by elaborate stage productions.
Following the release of Mystorial in 2016, DJ BoBo continued to evolve his career with new music and performances. In 2018, he released the album KaleidoLuna, which reached number 9 on the Swiss charts and number 25 in Germany. The album featured the single “Yaa Yee” and was accompanied by a tour in 2019.
In 2022, DJ BoBo celebrated his 30th anniversary in the music industry with the release of the album Evolut30n. The album included the single “Together We Fly” and served as the soundtrack for his 2023 anniversary tour. Evolut30n reached number 7 on the Swiss charts and number 22 in Germany.
As of April 2025, DJ BoBo is preparing for his “Arena Tour 2026,” with performances scheduled across various cities, including Rust, Riesa, Leipzig, and Stuttgart. The tour is set to run from January to June 2026, showcasing his enduring popularity and commitment to live performances.
Throughout this period, DJ BoBo has also made appearances on television, including participating in the German show Sing meinen Song in 2021, where he collaborated with other artists and shared insights into his musical journey.
