Mamagama
Mamagama is a dynamic Azerbaijani band formed in 2021 in Baku. The trio consists of vocalist Asaf Mishiyev, guitarist Hasan Heydar, and drummer Arif Imanov. Known for their unique fusion of rock, pop, and traditional Azerbaijani musical elements, Mamagama has quickly gained recognition in the music scene. Their energetic stage presence and deep, emotional lyrics have captivated audiences both domestically and internationally.
“Run With U” (What does AI say?)
Their Eurovision entry, “Run With U,” is a vibrant pop-rock song co-written by band members Asaf Mishiyev, Hasan Heydar, and producer Roman Zee. The track blends contemporary rhythms with traditional Azerbaijani instruments, such as the saz, creating a sound that pays homage to the country’s rich musical heritage. Upon its release on February 19, 2025, “Run With U” received positive feedback for its catchy melody and dynamic arrangement.
Internal Selection Process
Azerbaijan selected its Eurovision 2025 representative through an internal selection process conducted by the national broadcaster, İctimai Televiziya (İTV). The broadcaster received 154 song submissions, with approximately 49% from local composers and 51% from international writers. A jury panel, comprising national and international music industry experts, evaluated the entries. On February 4, 2025, İTV announced Mamagama as the chosen act to represent Azerbaijan in Basel.
Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest
Since debuting in 2008, Azerbaijan has been a strong contender in the Eurovision Song Contest. Azerbaijan ended up in the top5 on many occasions. The country secured its first victory in 2011 with Ell and Nikki‘s “Running Scared.” Over the years, Azerbaijan has achieved several top-ten finishes, reflecting its commitment to the competition and its emphasis on high-quality performances and productions. The last few years, however, Azerbaijan didn’t manage to reach the final.
A Random Azerbaijani Entry
Reflecting on Azerbaijan’s Eurovision history, random.org chose Dihaj, who entered the stage with the song “Skeletons”. Dihaj her real name is Diana Hajiyeva. Sometimes she performs solo, sometimes as a band. And she is the only one ever to have a horsehead on stage in Eurovision.
Betting Odds
As of now, Mamagama’s “Run With U” is having the 25th place in order to win the Eurovision Song Contest. If we look at the semifinal betting odds, they are 11th to qualify from the first semifinal. It will be a tough job for Azerbaijan. However, it is not impossible.
We eagerly await the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel and look forward to witnessing Mamagama’s performance on the grand stage.
