🇸🇪 Melodifestivalen faces the final

Tonight is the night of the Melodifestivalen final. The popular Swedish national final will be held in the Friends Arena in Stockholm and will be hosted by Carina Berg. The show starts at 20.00 CET and you can watch it here. These are the 12 participating songs: nr. 🇸🇪 Sweden: Melodifestivalen 5th heat

Melodifestivalen, the Swedish national selection, continues with a 5th and last heat. As Sweden is the host country, the winning song will go directly to the final. Two songs will go directly to the final, two other songs will go for ‘final qualification’, something that will be decided after the 5th heat. The show starts at 20:00 CET and you can watch it here or on the SVT Play app. These are the participating songs: Marcus & Martinus sing “Unforgettable” Chelsea Muco sings “Controlla” Jay Smith sings “Back to my roots” Elecktra sings “Banne maj” Annika Wickihalder sings “Light” Medina sings “Que sera”   Marcus & Martinus were 2nd last year.Medina was 3rd in 2022.   The final qual is what previously was the ‘Andra chancen’: two songs will be chosen to be added to the final next week, and these are the contestants: Adam Woods sings “Supernatural” Elisa Lindström sings “Forever yours” Dear Sara sings “The silence after you” Fröken Snusk sings “Unga & fria” Klaudy sings “För dig” Gunilla Persson sings “I won’t shake (La La Gunilla) Albin Tingwall sings “Done getting over you” Scarlet sings “Circus X” no. 3 of the 5th heat no. 4 of the 5th heat   Adam Woods was 4th last year.Elisa Lindström took part in 2014 (semifinal).

🇸🇪 Danny Saucedo and Dotter go on to the Meldodifestivalen final!

Danny Saucedo and Dotter have qualified for the final of Melodifestivalen 2024. Danny won the first round with his song “Happy That You Found Me”. It’s 2nd in the odds to win the whole show at the moment of writing. Dotter, who came 2nd in 2020, qualified in the final round of votes with “It’s Not Easy To Write a Love Song”.    The ones who go on to the second chance round are Albin Tingwall with “Done Getting Over You” and Scarlet with “Circus X”   These are the full results:

🇸🇪 Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman to host

Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman will host the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. That is what Swedish broadcaster SVT announced today.  For Petra Mede, it’s already the third time she will host the contest. In 2013, in Malmö (!), she did the job alone. Three years later in Stockholm, she hosted the show with Måns Zelmerlöw. She commented on having the job for a third time: ‘Imagine getting the chance to host Eurovision once again! It’s such an incredible honor. After first hosting it alone and then together with the delightful Måns Zelmerlöw by my side, I am now really looking forward to working with Malin. We don’t know each other from before, but we have met a couple of times now, and I’m already completely sold. It’s going to be a joy to work with her!’ Malin Åkerman hails from Stockholm but was brought up in Canada. Currently, she resides in Los Angeles alongside her family. Her impressive career spans across both television and film, featuring notable roles in TV series like “The Comeback” and “Entourage,” as well as memorable appearances in movies such as “The Heartbreak Kid” and “Watchmen.” Malin has shared the screen with renowned stars like Tom Cruise, Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock, and The Rock. Additionally, she has showcased her singing talents on the Swedish theatre stage in productions like “A Piece of My Heart.”

🇸🇪 Smash Into Pieces & Lisa Ajax to Melodifestivalen final!

The big winners from tonight’s first heat are Smash Into Pieces with “Heroes Are Calling” And Lisa Ajax with “Awful Liar”! Smash Into Pieces won the first round of votes, and Lisa ajax came out on top in the second round with 86 points.  We’ve seen both of the acts take part in Melodifestivalen in the past. Smash Into Pieces took part last year with their 3rd placing song “Six Feet Under”. Lisa Ajax has participated 4 times before, with her best entry “My Heart Wants Me Dead” resulting in a 7th place. We will see them perform in Friends Arena on march 9th.  Elisa Lindström, and Adam Woods have qualified for the final qualification round.  The round will be held right after the 5th heat.

Malmö will be united by music

The slogan of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest has been revealed: United By Music. Big questionmark on the head of many Eurovision fans…. United By Music was the 2023 slogan, wasn’t it? True, but the EBU has decided that, from now on, it will be a permanent slogan. The EBU announced it with a video, mentioning all the slogans since A Modern Fairytale in 2002. Marcus Österdahl on this change: “The Eurovision Song Contest is more than just a song competition; it’s a celebration of the power of music to bring people together. After over 20 years of using different slogans, and as we approach our 70th anniversary, we feel we have found one that truly encapsulates our brand. “By establishing a permanent slogan, we will have consistency in our message that music unites us all. It’s the perfect slogan to underline our values of inclusivity, equality, universality and celebrating diversity through music. As the popularity of the Eurovision Song Contest continues to grow around the world, we believe using the same slogan annually will help our brand become even stronger.”
