Austria’s JJ presents “Wasted Love”. Austria has selected JJ, the stage name of Johannes Pietsch, to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with his song “Wasted Love”. The official music video for “Wasted Love” was released this morning.

Austria has selected JJ, also known as Johannes Pietsch, for Eurovision 2025. He will perform Wasted Love at the contest in Basel, Switzerland. The official music video premiered today.

JJ is a 23-year-old countertenor from Vienna. He blends classical opera with modern pop. In 2021, he reached the finals of Starmania. Later, he performed in The Magic Flute at the Vienna State Opera, proving his vocal versatility.

He co-wrote Wasted Love with Teodora Špirić, also known as Teya, who represented Austria at Eurovision 2023. The song fuses pop and classical influences, showcasing JJ’s unique style. The music video features a dramatic theater setting and underwater scenes, adding to the song’s emotional depth.

Austria selected Wasted Love through a rigorous process. A songwriting camp in Vienna produced several potential entries. A panel of music industry experts, Eurovision specialists, and international OGAE fan club members then picked JJ’s song from eight finalists.

Austria has a rich Eurovision history. The country first won in 1966 with Merci, Chérie by Udo Jürgens. After decades of mixed results, Austria claimed victory again in 2014 with Rise Like a Phoenix by Conchita Wurst. The performance became one of Eurovision’s most iconic moments. Since then, Austria has delivered strong entries, often blending different musical styles. While the country has had ups and downs, it continues to be a fan favorite. With JJ’s unique voice and Wasted Love, Austria hopes to add another memorable chapter to its Eurovision journey.

JJ will perform in the second semi-final on May 15, 2025, in Basel.
