Sissal

Sissal Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen, known professionally as Sissal, is a Faroese singer born on 13 February 1995 in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. She is the daughter of Faroese artist Mikkalina Norðberg. 

Sissal’s musical journey began early; at the age of ten, she won the Faroese children’s singing competition Nósa Barnaprix with the song “Summarið er komið” in 2005. Five years later, in 2010, she secured victory in the annual singing competition Ársins Songrødd. 

In 2020, Sissal relocated to Copenhagen, Denmark, to pursue an international music career. Alongside her musical endeavors, she is studying to become a teacher. She is also a mother of two daughters. 

Sissal released her debut EP, “Hear Me Now,” in early 2025. The EP includes tracks such as “Deep End,” “Far from Sober,” and “Hear Me Now,” showcasing her blend of pop sensibilities and electronic elements. 

In February 2025, Sissal was announced as one of the eight participants in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (DMGP) with her song “Hallucination.” She won the competition on 1 March 2025, earning the right to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. This achievement marks her as the second Faroese artist to represent Denmark at Eurovision, following Reiley in 2023. 

Sissal cites Norwegian singer Dagny and Swedish singer Robyn among her musical inspirations. 

As of 2025, Sissal continues to balance her music career with her studies and family life, preparing to perform “Hallucination” in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel. She was 8th in that semifinal and secured a place in the Grand Final, where she got a 23rd place.
