Biography

Piero Esteriore is a Swiss singer best known for representing Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. Over the years, he has had many ups and downs in his music career. He first rose to fame through a TV singing contest and experienced both the glamour and heartbreak of Eurovision. Today, he continues to perform and record music.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Piero Esteriore was born on 23 September 1977 in Laufen, Switzerland. He grew up in Aesch in the Basel region, in a family of Sicilian (Italian) origin. His parents were singers, and Piero joined them on stage from a young age, showcasing his natural talent. He learned to play the drums at just six years old. Music was always a big part of his life, even as he trained to become a hairdresser during his teenage years.

Breakthrough on MusicStar and Eurovision 2004

In 2004, Piero got his first big break by competing in the inaugural season of the Swiss TV singing contest MusicStar. He impressed the judges and audience, ultimately finishing in third place on the show. This success led to Piero Esteriore being selected to represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004.

At Eurovision 2004 in Istanbul, Piero performed an upbeat pop song called “Celebrate!”. However, his performance failed to earn any points from the voting countries, and he was eliminated in the semi-final.

Albums and Later Career

Despite the Eurovision setback, Piero Esteriore pressed on with his music career. In late 2004 he released a catchy single called “Mammamia,” which became a hit and reached the Swiss top ten. This was followed by his debut album 1 Secondo in 2005, which peaked at number 3 on the Swiss charts. Over the next few years, he released more albums (Io vivo, Mondo, Zwei2due) that kept him active in the Swiss pop music scene.

Piero also remained an active live performer. He toured for several years with popular Austrian singer Andreas Gabalier, gaining experience on stages in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. In addition, he explored other media opportunities. In 2009, he briefly joined the German edition of Big Brother, and in 2011 he auditioned on the TV talent show Das Supertalent. He even appeared in a stage musical, playing a role in the Swiss production of Avenue Q.

However, Piero also faced setbacks during this period. In 2007, he drove his car into a media company’s building out of frustration with negative press coverage. After this incident, he stepped back from the spotlight for a few years. It was a difficult time for him, but it set the stage for a future comeback.

Comeback with the Esteriore Brothers

By the late 2010s, Piero Esteriore found a second chance by teaming up with his younger brothers Mimmo, Gabriele, and Amedeo. Together they formed a singing group called The Esteriore Brothers. In 2019, the brothers delivered a powerful performance on the Italian TV show Tú sí que vales that moved the audience and judges to tears. This emotional appearance marked the start of Piero’s comeback and led to a successful tour across Europe.

In the following years, the Esteriore Brothers embraced social media and reached a new generation of fans worldwide. Their singing videos on TikTok went viral, earning a massive following (over one billion views in total). This internet fame opened doors for international concerts in places like Australia, and even in New York and Dubai. They also appeared on major European TV programs in 2023–2024. The group released new music too, blending classic Italian hits with original pop songs to celebrate their heritage.

Today, Piero Esteriore is enjoying a vibrant musical career again as part of the Esteriore Brothers. He has turned past setbacks into motivation and is grateful for this “second” career in music, even joking that he had been “declared dead” in the industry but now feels “resurrected” by his success with the group. From his early days as a hopeful Swiss singer to his Eurovision 2004 experience and later resurgence, Piero Esteriore’s story shows the power of resilience, family support, and a deep love of music.
