Biography
Pete Parkkonen biography: early life and first music steps
Pete Parkkonen is a Finnish singer from Pihtipudas, more exactly from the small village of Elämäjärvi. Music was part of family life from the start. First, he played drums as a child. Later, he moved to singing in his teens when the vocalist of a friends’ band did not come to rehearsal. That small accident changed everything. From then on, Parkkonen grew through bands, rehearsals and live stages. So, before television made him famous, he had already learned how to work in a group and how to connect with an audience.Â
Idols, first records and a fast breakthrough
National fame came in 2008 when Parkkonen finished third in Idols. Soon after that, his solo career started quickly. His first big single, “Girl In a Uniform,” reached number 5 in Finland. Then his debut album The First Album arrived in March 2009 and went straight to number 1. It stayed on the Finnish album chart for 19 weeks. One year later, he released I’m an Accident, which showed a more rock-based sound and reached number 21. Meanwhile, he stayed visible on television. In late 2010, he led the Pihtipudas choir to the final of Kuorosota. The choir finished second. Therefore, his first years in the public eye already mixed chart success, live work and prime-time TV.
Finding his own sound in Finnish
However, Parkkonen did not stay in one lane. After his English-language albums, he turned more strongly to Finnish-language pop. The single “Mitä minä sanoin” came out in 2013, and “Mun” followed in 2014. In the same year, he released the album Pete Parkkonen. Also in 2014, he won Dancing with the Stars Finland together with Katri Mäkinen. After that, his profile grew again. He worked with JVG, and his 2016 single “Mitä mä teen” featuring JVG became one of his biggest hits, peaking at number 3 in Finland. Later that same year, Parkkonen won the TV music contest Tähdet, tähdet. So, step by step, he moved far beyond the image of a former Idols contestant.
Hits, the PETE album and Vain elämää
In the years that followed, Parkkonen kept building his catalogue. Songs such as “Kohta sataa,” “Ei nyt,” “Myyty” and “Mä haluun sut tänään” kept his name on the charts and on radio. Then, in November 2018, he released PETE, his fourth studio album. It reached number 8 in Finland. The 2020s brought another active period with singles such as “Voimaa ja valoa,” “Portaat” and “Oon tässä.” Moreover, in 2022 he joined the 13th season of Vain elämää. There he released several songs connected to the programme, including “Pilven pääl,” “Syntisten pöytä,” “Lost Boy” and “Pure mua.” He closed that year with the Christmas single “Joulurauhaa.” By then, Parkkonen had shown that he could handle pop, rock and softer emotional songs with equal ease.
Pete Parkkonen at Eurovision 2026
Now his biggest Eurovision chapter has started. In 2026, Pete Parkkonen teamed up with violin star Linda Lampenius for UMK, Finland’s national selection. Their song “Liekinheitin” was released on 16 January. On 28 February, the duo won UMK with 570 points. The song also reached number 1 on the Finnish singles chart. As a result, Parkkonen will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna.Â
