Biography

Olivia Lewis, born on October 18, 1978, in Qormi, Malta, is a distinguished Maltese singer renowned for her persistent participation in national music competitions and her representation of Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest. Her musical journey began in her youth, and she gained early experience as a backing vocalist in the Malta Song for Europe festival at the age of 14. She continued to build her career by participating in various local festivals and competitions, showcasing her versatile vocal abilities.

Between 1997 and 2007, Lewis was a fixture in the Malta Song for Europe festival, participating multiple times. Her entries during this period included “You’re The One” in 1998, “Autumn of My Love” in 1999, “Only For You” and “I Wanna Love You” in 2000, “Love Is The Reason” in 2001, “Tell Me Why” in 2002, “Starting Over” in 2003, “Take a Look” in 2004, “Déjà Vu” in 2005, and “Spare A Moment” in 2006. Notably, she secured second place in the festival for three consecutive years from 2004 to 2006.

Lewis’s most notable achievement came in 2007 when she won the Malta Song for Europe festival with the song “Vertigo,” composed by Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg. This victory earned her the opportunity to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Helsinki, Finland. Despite high expectations, “Vertigo” did not advance to the final, finishing 25th out of 28 in the semi-final with 15 points. The song received points from Turkey (7), Albania (6), and the United Kingdom (2).

Following her Eurovision experience, Lewis continued to be an active figure in Malta’s music scene. In 2013, she won the Festival Internazzjonali tal-Kanzunetta Maltija with the song “Hawn mill-Ä did,” composed by Paul Abela and penned by Joe Julian Farrugia. The following year, she participated in the L-Għanja tal-Poplu festival, securing third place alongside Miriam Christine with the song “Wara l-KanÄ‹ell,” also written by Farrugia.

In 2022, Lewis participated in a special show celebrating Malta’s 50th anniversary in the Eurovision Song Contest. She performed her 2007 entry “Vertigo” in a duet with the group Baklava, revisiting her Eurovision experience and contributing to the commemoration of Malta’s Eurovision history.
