About
Biography
Nathalie Sorce was born in 1979 in Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, Belgium. She grew up in the village of Mornimont. Sorce comes from a musical family of Italian origin. She began singing at a young age and even appeared on local television talent programs during her childhood. Her strong gospel-influenced voice set her apart early on.
In 1998, a relative secretly entered Nathalie Sorce into the RTBF television talent show Pour la gloire (a French-language contest in Belgium). She impressed the judges with a powerful rendition of the gospel song “Amazing Grace” and won the competition in the soloist category. Following this victory, Sorce recorded her first album titled Wonderful Grace in 2000. The album featured gospel-inspired songs, reflecting her musical roots. However, despite her talent, Wonderful Grace did not reach the national music charts in Belgium.
Eurovision 2000
After her early success, Nathalie Sorce set her sights on a larger stage. She took part in Belgium’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2000, hoping to represent her country in the famous international competition. Sorce competed with the French-language song “Envie de vivre” (meaning “Desire to Live”). In February 2000, she won the Belgian national final, with the public voting her song as the winner. This victory earned Sorce the opportunity to perform at the Eurovision final in Stockholm, Sweden, in May 2000.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2000, Nathalie Sorce took the stage among contestants from across Europe. Her performance of “Envie de vivre” ultimately finished in 24th place , scoring just 2 points. Despite this disappointing result, Sorce gained attention and a bit of fame from the event. She even received the Barbara Dex Award for 2000 – a tongue-in-cheek fan award given to the worst-dressed performer of the year.
Later Career and Life
Nathalie Sorce’s time in the Eurovision spotlight was brief, and she did not continue toward a mainstream pop career afterward. Neither her Eurovision entry “Envie de vivre” nor her album Wonderful Grace managed to make an impact on the music charts. After 2000, Sorce gradually stepped away from the public eye and stopped releasing new music. She remained proud of her gospel roots and continued singing in more private or community settings, but she largely moved on from show business.
In the years following her Eurovision appearance, Nathalie Sorce focused on personal life and other pursuits outside of the music industry. She did not release any further studio albums or notable singles after her debut in 2000. As of recent years, Sorce has not returned to the stage or the recording studio in any official capacity.
Discography
Sorce released one album, Wonderful Grace, and one single, “Envie de vivre”. Each of these releases came out in the year 2000, marking Nathalie Sorce’s brief recording career. Wonderful Grace was her only full-length album, and “Envie de vivre” (backed with the gospel track “When We All Get to Heaven”) was released as a single in conjunction with her Eurovision participation. These works capture Sorce’s gospel-inspired pop style and are a testament to her talent during her active years.
