Biography

Magazin is a Croatian pop band formed in 1979 in Split. The group became one of the most popular acts in the region, known for its catchy melodies and strong female vocalists. Over the years, Magazin has undergone several lineup changes, but it has maintained its presence in the Croatian music scene.

In the early 1980s, Magazin gained popularity with Ljiljana Nikolovska as the lead singer. The band released several successful albums, including Slatko, slano, bezobrazno (1983) and Kokolo (1984). Their fusion of pop, rock, and Dalmatian folk elements contributed to their distinctive sound.

In 1990, Ljiljana Nikolovska left the band, and Danijela Martinović took over as the lead singer. This period saw further success, with hit albums such as Da mi te zaljubit u mene (1991) and Došlo vrijeme (1993). Magazin frequently participated in the Croatian national selection for Eurovision, coming close to representing Croatia multiple times.

In 1996, Martinović left the band to pursue a solo career, and Jelena Rozga became the new lead singer. Under Rozga’s leadership, the band continued to dominate the Croatian pop scene with songs like Ginem and Minut srca tvog. Their albums continued to chart well, and their performances at festivals further cemented their popularity.

In 2006, Jelena Rozga left the band, and Andrea Šušnjara joined as the new lead vocalist. With Šušnjara, Magazin maintained its mainstream appeal, releasing hit songs and albums such as Bila sam voljena (2014). The band continued performing at major Croatian music festivals and remained a staple of pop music in the country.

Magazin celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019 with a major concert in Split, highlighting its long-lasting impact on the music scene. The band continued to perform and release new music, with Ivana Kovač taking over as the lead singer in 2021. They remained active in both live performances and studio recordings.

In 2023 and 2024, Magazin embraced modern production techniques while staying true to their signature style. They released new singles that gained significant attention on digital platforms. The band continued to tour, performing at major regional festivals and concerts.

By 2025, Magazin maintained its status as one of Croatia’s longest-running and most influential pop bands. They even participate in the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest again, this time with the song “AaAaA”.
