Biography

Linda Lampenius biography: early life

Linda Lampenius is a Finnish violinist who is also known internationally as Linda Brava. She grew up between a theatre family in Helsinki and the family farm in Lapinjärvi. In musical kindergarten, she tried several instruments, but at five she chose the violin. At eight she joined the Helsinki Strings youth orchestra and soon started to tour abroad. As a child, she also appeared many times on Finnish television in YLE’s Minifiddlers in Musicland. Moreover, she won a scholarship from the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland as its youngest winner at that time. These first years already showed two things that still define the Linda Lampenius biography: strong classical training and natural stage presence.

Studies and first major career steps

Later, Lampenius studied at the Sibelius Academy from 1985 to 1997. She focused on violin, music theory, music history, pedagogy, piano and opera singing. At the same time, she built solid orchestral experience. She served as concertmistress in Kapubändi, led the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, and spent three years in the Finnish National Opera Orchestra before her solo career took off. She also studied with Mauricio Fuks in the United States and joined masterclasses in Finland, France and Israel. Soon after, her career became international. She performed across Europe, Asia and the United States, and later worked with major names and ensembles, including Andrew Lloyd Webber, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the La Scala Opera Orchestra.

Pop success, classical success and media years

The next chapter made Linda Lampenius a major name in Finland and abroad. In 1997, she released the pop album Linda Lampenius. The single built around Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue” drew attention well beyond Finland. Then, in 1999, EMI Classics released her classical album Linda Brava worldwide. It made her the best-selling Finnish classical artist of her time. After that, she kept moving between styles instead of choosing only one lane. Nordic Light followed in 2005 with Finnish and Swedish folk material, while Angels arrived in 2015 as a Christmas album on her own label. At the same time, the media often focused on her glamorous image as much as her musicianship. Lampenius later spoke openly about that pressure and about the objectification of women in the music business.

Television, writing and Finnish comeback

However, music was never her only field. Over the years, Lampenius appeared on television in many countries. She also became a judge on X Factor Finland and took part in Sweden’s Let’s Dance. Later, she told her own story in an autobiography and in the documentary series Linda, which won the Golden Venla Award in Finland. In the 2020s, she made a strong comeback at home. A key moment came at UMK 2025, when she performed in the interval act “Shanghain valot.” The performance reached younger viewers in particular and brought her back to the centre of Finnish pop culture. So, her career no longer looked only back to the 1990s. Instead, it opened a fresh new chapter for a new Eurovision generation.

Linda Lampenius at Eurovision 2026

That new chapter led directly to Eurovision 2026. In early 2026, Lampenius teamed up with Finnish pop singer Pete Parkkonen for UMK, Finland’s national selection. Their song “Liekinheitin” mixed rock, dance and classical energy. On 28 February 2026, the duo won UMK in Tampere with 570 points. As a result, Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen became Finland’s act for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna. They will perform in the first half of the first semi-final on 12 May.
