Biography

Jonas Lovv biography: early life and first steps

Jonas Lovv is a Norwegian singer and songwriter from Bergen. Before television made him known to a wider audience, he had already spent years on the local music scene. He played in several bands, performed in Bergen clubs, and built a strong reputation as a live entertainer. In a 2025 interview, Lovv said his first try at a TV talent show came with an Idol audition in 2014. That did not become his big break. However, it pushed him back toward live music, where he kept shaping his style and stage presence.

The Shuffle Baby years

Later, Lovv became the vocalist of the Bergen synth-pop trio Shuffle Baby, alongside producer Erlend Aarli and drummer Truls Prestegard. The band mixed 1980s dance-pop and electro-funk with a modern pop sound. Shuffle Baby released several singles and the EP Posers in 2019. In 2020, the group put out the self-produced single “Over It,” which they recorded during the Covid period. The band built a following, but that chapter slowed down when Aarli moved to Oslo to study law. Lovv has said that Shuffle Baby was one of the projects he believed in most. Even so, the pause helped him move toward a solo career.

Building a solo career

As a solo artist, Jonas Lovv began releasing music in late 2020 with the Christmas single “Oh Holy Night.” He followed that with “Blind” and “Better” in 2021, then “Old News,” “Lovely Liar,” and “NAKEN” in 2022.

In 2023, he expanded his catalogue with the six-track EP Fotografisk minne and songs such as “Så lenge vi lever,” “Tomt dansegulv,” “Mer enn venner,” and “Godnattsang for nissunger.” After that, he returned in 2024 with “Teller du til hundre,” “Aldri tilbake,” and “That’s Okey.” Step by step, he built a catalogue that moved between pop, rock, and more intimate songs in Norwegian and English.

The Voice Norway breakthrough

His national breakthrough came in 2025 on The Voice Norway. Lovv later said that he had turned the program down several times before he finally joined. He made an immediate impact with “Play That Funky Music,” which turned three chairs. On Team Espen Lind, he stayed in the spotlight with performances such as “Bullet Me,” “Whole Lotta Love,” “Grace Kelly,” and “Love of My Life.” After the show, his profile grew quickly. According to his official artist biography, he then played several major festival stages in Western Norway, performed two nights at Latter in Oslo with Else Kåss Furuseth and SKRELLEX, and sang with KORK in Grieghallen in Bergen.

Melodi Grand Prix and Eurovision 2026

That momentum led Jonas Lovv to Melodi Grand Prix 2026. The official Eurovision website presented him as one of the finalists with “Ya Ya Ya,” a song he wrote with Sondre Skaftun. On 28 February 2026, he won the Norwegian final in Lillehammer with 265 points. That victory gave him the ticket to represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna. As of today, Lovv is Norway’s Eurovision 2026 artist, and he will perform “Ya Ya Ya” in the second half of the second semi-final on 14 May. His journey shows a clear line: local bands, solo releases, television, bigger stages, and now Eurovision.
