Jonas Flodager Rasmussen, known professionally as Rasmussen, is a Danish singer and actor born on January 23, 1985, in Viborg, Denmark. He pursued studies in dramaturgy and music at Aarhus University and has since combined careers in music, theatre, and education. He resides in Langå with his wife and two children and teaches at both the School of Performing Arts at Viborg Cultural School and Aarhus Theatre Learning.
Rasmussen’s musical career began as the lead vocalist of the 1980s cover band Hair Metal Heröes, performing songs by artists such as Van Halen, Europe, Bon Jovi, and Def Leppard. He also has an extensive background in musical theatre, having performed in productions like West Side Story, Rent, and Les Misérables in Aarhus and Holstebro.
In 2018, Rasmussen gained national and international recognition by winning the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song “Higher Ground,” written by Niclas Arn and Karl Eurén. The song, inspired by the story of Viking Magnus Erlendsson who advocated for peace, represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. Rasmussen’s performance featured a Viking-inspired theme and included four backing vocalists. He qualified from the second semi-final, placing fifth with 204 points, and ultimately finished ninth in the grand final with a total of 226 points.
Following Eurovision, Rasmussen continued his musical pursuits. In 2019, he released the single “Go Beyond,” and in 2021, he released “Stand by Each Other.” That same year, he participated in the Phil Collins tribute concerts In the Air Tonight and took on a role in the musical Atlantis The Musical .
