Biography
Gisela Lladó Cánovas, known professionally as Gisela, is a Spanish pop singer and voice actress born on January 1, 1979, in El Bruc, Barcelona, Spain. She studied journalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona before gaining national recognition in 2001 by securing the eighth position in the inaugural season of the Spanish singing competition, Operación Triunfo.
Following her success on the show, Gisela released her debut album, Parte De Mí, in 2002, which achieved significant commercial success in Spain. That same year, she participated as a backing vocalist for Rosa López at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Tallinn, Estonia, where Spain finished seventh.
In 2003, Gisela represented Spain at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile, where she won the competition with the song “Este Amor Es Tuyo”. Her second album, Más Allá, was released in 2003, featuring singles like “Más Allá” and “Sola”.
Gisela’s third album, Ni Te Lo Imaginas, came out in 2006, with the lead single “Turu-Turu” reaching number one on the Spanish charts.
In 2008, Gisela represented Andorra at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, Serbia, with the song “Casanova”. Despite a lively performance, she did not advance to the final, placing 16th in the semi-final.
Beyond her singing career, Gisela has lent her voice to various characters in Spanish-language versions of animated films. Notably, she provided the singing voice for Elsa in Disney’s Frozen (2013) and Frozen II (2019) in both Castilian Spanish and Catalan. In 2020, she performed “Into the Unknown” from Frozen II at the 92nd Academy Awards in Los Angeles, representing the Castilian Spanish version of the song.
Gisela has also pursued a career in musical theater, starring in productions such as Peter Pan, el musical (2002–2003), El diluvio que viene (2004–2006), Grease (2009–2010), and La Bella Helena (2017).
