Biography
Gabriele “Gabry” Ponte, born on April 20, 1973, in Turin, Italy, is a distinguished DJ, musician, and producer who has significantly influenced the electronic and dance music scenes both in Italy and internationally.
Ponte’s passion for music emerged at a young age, leading him to begin his career as a DJ in local clubs across Turin. His early experiences in the vibrant Italian dance scene laid the foundation for his future endeavors. In 1998, he co-founded the dance group Eiffel 65 alongside Maurizio Lobina and Jeffrey Jey. The trio quickly rose to prominence with their debut single, “Blue (Da Ba Dee),” which topped charts in 24 countries and sold over 8 million copies worldwide. Their subsequent album, Europop, further cemented their status, achieving triple platinum certification and selling over 4 million copies globally.
In 2002, while still part of Eiffel 65, Ponte embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut single “Got to Get,” which garnered significant attention in the dance music community. This was followed by “Time to Rock” in 2002 and “Geordie” in 2003, a modern rendition of Fabrizio De André’s classic, which earned a gold record for selling over 25,000 copies. His first solo album, Gabry Ponte, was released in 2002, featuring a mix of original tracks and innovative remixes.
Ponte continued to produce hits such as “La Danza delle Streghe” in 2003 and “Figli di Pitagora” in 2004, the latter featuring Italian rock legend Little Tony. His second solo album, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. DJ, was released in 2004, showcasing his versatility in blending various electronic genres. Throughout this period, Ponte also gained recognition for his remixes of popular tracks, including Gianni Togni’s “Giulia” and O-Zone’s “Dragostea Din Tei.”
In 2005, Ponte amicably parted ways with Eiffel 65 to focus on his solo career and entrepreneurial interests. He founded Dance and Love, an independent record label that has become a significant entity in the Italian dance music industry. The label has been instrumental in promoting new talents and producing chart-topping hits.
Ponte’s collaborations have spanned a wide array of artists, including international acts like Pitbull and Sophia del Carmen on the 2012 single “Beat on My Drum,” which peaked at number 11 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. He also produced the international hit “Tacata'” by the dance music trio Tacabro in the same year. His ability to adapt and innovate has kept him relevant in the ever-evolving music industry.
In recent years, Ponte has continued to make waves in the music scene. In 2021, he collaborated with LUM!X and Prezioso on the single “Thunder,” which achieved top 10 positions in several European countries, including the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. He also co-wrote and produced “Halo,” Austria’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, performed by LUM!X and Pia Maria.
In 2025, Ponte reached a new milestone by winning the San Marino Song Contest with his track “Tutta l’Italia.” This victory granted him the opportunity to represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. The song, characterized by its catchy rhythm and patriotic theme, resonated with both the jury and the audience, showcasing Ponte’s ability to connect with a broad spectrum of listeners.
In January 2021, Ponte underwent heart surgery at the Molinette Hospital in Turin. Later that year, in June, he welcomed the birth of his daughter, Alice, marking a joyous chapter in his personal life.
