Biography

Eiríkur Hauksson is an Icelandic singer known for his work in rock and heavy metal music. He began his music career in 1981 with the band Start. Their song “Sekur” was named Icelandic Song of the Year that same year.

In 1984, he joined the metal band Drýsill and recorded the album “Welcome to the Show.” The following year, he released two solo songs, “Gaggó Vest” and “Gull,” which became popular in Iceland.

In 1986, Eiríkur was part of the group ICY, representing Iceland in its first Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Gleðibankinn.” They finished in 16th place. The next year, he performed the song “Lífið er lag” in Iceland’s national Eurovision selection, finishing second. This song was later released on the album “Model” by the group of the same name.

In 1988, Eiríkur moved to Østfold, Norway, to become the lead singer of the heavy metal band Artch, using the stage name Eric Hawk. Artch released two albums: “Another Return (to Church Hill)” in 1988 and “For the Sake of Mankind” in 1991. The band disbanded in 1993 but reunited in 1999 for concerts and released a live DVD. Their albums were remastered and re-released in 2000.

In 1991, Eiríkur represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest as part of the group Just 4 Fun with the song “Mrs. Thompson,” finishing 17th.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he collaborated with various artists and bands. In 1999, he provided vocals for the Swedish band Gardenian’s album “Soulburner.” In 2005, he toured Europe as the vocalist for Ken Hensley’s band Live Fire.

In 2007, Eiríkur returned to Eurovision, representing Iceland with the song “Valentine Lost.” Although the song did not advance to the final, it was selected through Iceland’s national competition with significant public support.

Later in 2007, he became the lead singer of the Norwegian progressive rock band Magic Pie. In 2012, he joined another Norwegian prog rock band, Kerrs Pink, as their lead vocalist.

On April 25, 2025, Eiríkur joined The Rock Choir of Iceland to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The event featured performances of songs he has popularized, showcasing his enduring influence in Icelandic music.

Eiríkur has also contributed backing vocals for the Norwegian glam metal band Wig Wam, connecting through Artch’s bassist Bernt Jansen.

In addition to his music career, Eiríkur is trained as a teacher.
