
Biography
Peter Andersen, known professionally as DQ, is a Danish singer and drag performer born on 16 February 1973 in Køge, Denmark. He grew up in Borup, Zealand, and later moved to Copenhagen. After completing his education at Roskilde Handelsskole and serving nine months in the military at Sjælsmark, he trained as a hairdresser, qualifying in January 1998 .
Andersen began his musical career in the late 1990s, performing with various rock bands. In 1997, he joined the drag trio Naughty Voices, marking his first experience with drag performance. He later became the lead singer of the Tina Turner tribute band Tina Turner Jam, which was subsequently renamed Turn On Tina. The group gained popularity, particularly in the United States, for their performances of Tina Turner hits .
In 2001, Andersen started performing solo drag shows under the stage name DQ, an abbreviation of “Drama Queen.” His performances often featured impersonations of well-known female artists, including Tina Turner, Cher, Birthe Kjær, and Sanne Salomonsen, with up to 13 costume changes in a single show .
In 2007, DQ participated in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song “Drama Queen,” co-written by Andersen, Simon Munk, and Claus Christensen. The song won the national selection, earning DQ the opportunity to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki. DQ performed in the semi-final on 10 May 2007 but did not advance to the final, finishing 19th with 45 points .
Following Eurovision, DQ released a debut album titled “Drama Queen,” which debuted at number 11 on the Danish charts. The album included the Eurovision entry and other disco/pop tracks .
In 2012, DQ participated in the first edition of “Eurovisión Gay,” held in Maspalomas, Spain, alongside other artists .
In August 2024, DQ returned to Helsinki to co-host and perform at the Eurovision Cruise, an event organized by OGAE Finland. The cruise featured performances by various Eurovision artists.
