Biography

Cosmó (real name Benjamin Gedeon) is a 19-year-old Austrian pop singer-songwriter. In February 2026, he won Austria’s national selection and will represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with his song “Tanzschein”.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Cosmó was born on 18 June 2006 in Budapest, Hungary, and grew up in Halbturn in Austria’s Burgenland province. At just four years old he began attending a music school, and by six he was taking formal piano lessons. By his early teens, he was also training in vocals. Around the age of 13 he started writing his own melodies and lyrics. One of his early inspirations came from watching his mother’s Mamma Mia! musical DVD. A school karaoke contest also helped spark his passion for performing. This early start allowed him to experiment with pop and jazz influences while still in school.

Rise to Fame and Early Career

In 2020, Cosmó made his first attempt at the TV talent show The Voice Kids in Germany. He did not advance far in that year’s competition, but it gave him valuable experience. The following year, he proved his songwriting skills by winning Burgenland’s podium.jazz.pop.rock… contest as the best singer-songwriter, performing his original song “Fall into Your Arms”. In 2022, Cosmó returned to The Voice Kids with more confidence. He reached the final of the show under the mentorship of Spanish-German singer Álvaro Soler. His journey on the show gave him national exposure and opened new doors in the music industry.

After his success on television, Cosmó began performing more widely. He appeared at regional music festivals and even joined his Voice Kids coach Álvaro Soler on stage at concerts in Austria. He also formed a live band to back him, which expanded his stage experience. Around this time, he started releasing his music independently, steadily building his profile in the Austrian pop scene. Cosmó self-released his debut EP From My Room in June 2025, showcasing a mix of contemporary pop and electronic styles. He primarily sings in German and draws inspiration from modern pop trends and club culture.

Road to Eurovision 2026

In late 2025, Austrian broadcaster ORF announced him as one of the contestants for the Eurovision selection show Vienna Calling – Wer singt für Österreich?. On 20 February 2026, he performed his upbeat track “Tanzschein” in the live final. He won the competition, earning the right to represent Austria on home soil at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna.

Tanzschein, which means “Dance Ticket” in German, is a song he co-wrote with Elias Stejskal and Ella Stern. Cosmó drew inspiration from a personal nightclub experience when creating the song. He aimed to recapture the energetic atmosphere of a vibrant dance floor.

At 19, Cosmó brings youthful energy as one of Austria’s youngest ever Eurovision representatives. He has cited past Austrian Eurovision stars like Conchita Wurst (2014 champion) and JJ (2025 champion) as inspirations. Aside from music, he currently lives in Vienna and is a university student studying dentistry. Cosmó chose his stage name as a shorthand for “Cosmopolitan,” reflecting a worldly and open-minded outlook. With his fresh pop sound and passion for performance, he is now poised to perform “Tanzschein” for Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.
