Biography
Bonaparti.lv was a Latvian musical group formed in 2006 to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. The ensemble consisted of six tenors: Normunds Jakušonoks, Zigfrīds Muktupāvels, Kaspars Tīmanis, Andris Ābelīte, Andris Ērglis, and Roberto Meloni, an Italian-born singer who had moved to Latvia in 2002.
The group’s formation was initiated by Swedish composer Kjell Jennstig, who submitted the song “Tonight” to Eirodziesma 2007, Latvia’s national selection for Eurovision. To comply with the competition’s requirement for Latvian performers, Jennstig assembled the six tenors, leading to the creation of Bonaparti.lv. The song was translated into Italian and retitled “Questa Notte” (This Night).
Bonaparti.lv competed in the second semi-final of Eirodziesma on February 3, 2007, winning with 9,909 votes. In the final held on February 24, they secured victory in the superfinal with 49,422 votes, more than three times the votes of the runner-up, earning the opportunity to represent Latvia at Eurovision 2007 in Helsinki, Finland.
At the Eurovision Song Contest, Bonaparti.lv performed “Questa Notte” in the semi-final on May 10, 2007, and qualified for the final by finishing in the top 10. In the final on May 12, they performed 14th in the lineup and ultimately placed 16th, receiving 54 points.
Following their Eurovision participation, the group disbanded but later reunited after some years. Roberto Meloni continued his involvement in Eurovision by representing Latvia again in 2008 as part of the group Pirates of the Sea.
