Biography

Early Life and Education

Søren Torpegaard Lund was born on 23 December 1998 in the town of Gudme on the island of Funen, Denmark. From a young age, he developed a passion for performing, especially musical theatre. He even had early acting appearances in short films during his teens. Musical theatre has always been a huge part of his life, shaping his ambitions as an entertainer. After finishing secondary school, Lund pursued formal training in the performing arts. He studied at Den Danske Scenekunstskole in Fredericia from 2016 to 2019. Lund earned a bachelor’s degree in musical performance.

Music Career and Notable Releases

Lund’s music career began gaining national attention in early 2023. He competed in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023, Denmark’s contest to select its Eurovision entry. Lund performed the ballad “Lige her”. Although the song did not advance to the final, his emotional performance drew praise for its sensitivity and powerful vocals. Following the contest, Lund released an English-language version of the song titled “In a Perfect World” to reach a wider audience.

Later in 2023, Lund wrote and released his first original single, “Stor Kunst,” marking his debut as a songwriter. He collaborated with Tim Schou on this track, which helped shape Lund’s pop sound. He continued to build his discography in 2024 with a series of new songs. That included “De ting, jeg hvisker” and “En dreng som mig”. The latter is a ballad from the Danish musical Matador. Lund performed in the stage production, blending his theatrical and musical talents. In October 2024, he released a debut EP titled Øjesten under the Little Yellow House label. Lund’s musical style bridges contemporary pop and theatrical storytelling, reflecting his background in musical theatre.

Theater and Acting Career

Parallel to his music endeavors, Lund has built an impressive career on stage as a musical theatre actor. After graduating from drama school, he quickly landed roles in major Danish theatre productions. Over the years he has starred in a wide range of popular musicals. His credits include Oliver!, Grease, Dirty Dancing, Kinky Boots, and Jersey Boys, among others. In 2022, Lund took on the iconic lead role of Tony in West Side Story at the Copenhagen Opera House. He also portrayed Daniel Skjern in the hit Danish musical Matador, a role that allowed him to perform the song “En dreng som mig” on stage. The singer later recorded it. Lund’s versatility on stage has made him a sought-after talent in the Danish musical scene.

Lund’s achievements in theater have been recognized with prestigious honors. He won the Reumert Talent Prize in 2021, an award celebrating outstanding emerging performers in Danish theatre. In 2022, he performed as a featured soloist at prominent events. Lund performed at Denmark’s nationally televised Christmas show and the royal 50-year jubilee concert for Queen Margrethe II. Beyond the stage, he has also appeared on screen in a limited capacity. He also had a guest role in the TV crime series Sommerdahl (2022) and parts in short films during his youth. Lund’s visibility and advocacy as an openly queer artist earned him a nomination for “Årets Artist” (Artist of the Year) at the Danish Rainbow Awards in 2024.

Road to Eurovision 2026

By 2025, Lund had established himself as both a rising singer-songwriter and a respected stage actor. He set his sights on returning to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with a song he helped write. A goal he had voiced since his first attempt in 2023. In early 2026, that ambition became reality when Lund entered Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 with the uptempo pop track “Før vi går hjem” (meaning “Before We Go Home”). In the competition final on 14 February 2026, he delivered an energetic performance that won over both the jury and the public voters. Lund unexpectedly clinched the victory, surpassing the previous year’s champion Sissal who had been favored to win again. This triumph earned him the honor of representing Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna.
