Biography
Son de Sol is a Spanish music group. The name means “Sound of the Sun.” The group has three sisters: Sole León, Esperanza León, and Lola León. They come from Écija, a town in Andalusia, Spain. Their style is a mix of flamenco and pop music. They became famous when they sang “Brujería” at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005.
Early Career and Music Style
Son de Sol started in the 1990s. The three sisters grew up in a musical family. They learned flamenco dancing and singing from a young age. In 1999, they made their first album. It was called De fiesta por sevillanas. It did not sell well. In 2002, they made another album: Callejuela. This also did not become a hit. Still, they kept performing in Spain. Their music mixed Spanish folk with pop beats.
Eurovision 2005 – “Brujería”
In 2005, they entered the Spanish selection for Eurovision. They won the final with the song “Brujería”. The song means “Witchcraft” in English. It was full of Spanish rhythm, guitar, and dance. Spain is part of the “Big Four,” so they went straight to the final in Kyiv, Ukraine. Son de Sol gave a strong performance on stage. They wore red and gold and danced flamenco. But the song finished 21st out of 24. Many people liked the show, but the points were low. Still, the song became part of Eurovision 2005 Spain history.
Albums and Music After Eurovision
In 2005, they released an album called Brujería. It included their Eurovision song. It reached number 96 in Spain. In 2008, they made a final album: Directo a ti. Like their earlier albums, it did not sell well. After that, they stopped releasing new music. They never had a big hit, but they had a small group of fans. Their style stayed the same: flamenco-pop with strong dance.
What Happened After?
After 2008, the sisters worked on other things. They opened a flamenco dance school in Écija. Later, Esperanza and Lola opened their own schools. They still teach flamenco there today. Esperanza León won an award for flamenco singing in France. She also sang with famous Spanish artists. Lola León appeared in two Spanish films. Sole León studied journalism. She also plays piano and now focuses on her family. All three stayed close to music and culture.
Son de Sol in 2025
Son de Sol is not active as a group in 2025. But the sisters still teach dance and music. Sometimes they appear on Spanish TV. In 2023, two of them sang “Brujería” again on stage. In Écija, a street is now called “Son de Sol”. It is named after the group.Their style, their passion, and their flamenco roots left a mark.
