About
Biography
Scooch is a pop group from the United Kingdom. The group was formed in 1998. Its original members are Caroline Barnes, David Ducasse, Natalie Powers, and Russ Spencer.
Scooch became known in 1999 when they released their first single, “When My Baby.” That year, they had a few hits in the UK Singles Chart. Their most successful song at the time was “More Than I Needed to Know,” which reached number 5 in the UK in early 2000. In the same year, they released their first and only album, Four Sure.
After 2000, their popularity decreased, and the group split up. The members worked on other projects. Caroline and Natalie performed in musical theatre. Russ and David worked in television and stage productions. The group stayed apart until 2007.
In 2007, Scooch reunited to take part in the UK national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. They won the selection with the song “Flying the Flag (For You).” In May 2007, they represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki, Finland. They finished 22nd out of 24 entries in the final. The song reached number 5 in the UK Singles Chart after the contest.
After Eurovision, Scooch performed together at special events, especially at Pride festivals and 1990s-themed shows. In 2008 and 2009, they appeared at several shows across the UK. They did not release new songs as a group, but they continued performing their older material.
In 2011, Scooch released a new version of “More Than I Needed to Know,” but it was only a digital release. After that, the group focused mainly on live performances. The members also continued their individual careers. Russ Spencer appeared on television, and Natalie Powers released solo music and worked as a vocal coach.
Scooch did not officially split up again, but after 2011 they became less active as a group. In later years, they reunited for occasional performances, especially at nostalgia events and fan festivals.
