Biography
Sandra Oxenryd was born on 1 October 1982 in Kristinehamn, Sweden. Her father, Christer “Tarzan” Oxenryd, was a singer in a Swedish dance band. Sandra studied economics in school. When she was about eleven years old, she began singing on Swedish television. As a teenager, she entered a TV talent show where she imitated Carola Häggkvist and won second place.
Sandra’s big break came in 2005 when she entered Fame Factory, a popular music reality show in Sweden. She won the competition’s fourth season and became its first-ever female winner. After her win, Sandra released an album titled All There Is and a single called “At Your Side” in 2005.
Her win earned her wide media attention in Sweden – for example, she performed at a major TV award show soon after.
In 2006, Sandra represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens. She performed the song “Through My Window” on the Eurovision stage. However, despite being a fan favorite, the entry did not qualify for the final, finishing 18th in the semi-final.
After Eurovision, Sandra continued her music career in various ways. In 2008, she tried for Eurovision again by competing in Poland’s national selection with the song “Superhero,” where she finished in 8th place. Over the following years, she performed as a singer in many stage shows, revues, and musical productions. For example, she took part in Hjalmars revy (a Swedish stage revue) and performed in the Stockholm production of Dirty Dancing – The Musical in 2012. Sandra also sang in holiday concerts and dinner shows across Scandinavia.
Besides performing as a solo artist, Sandra often worked as a backing singer for other well-known artists. She has sung backup for popular Swedish singers like Magnus Uggla, Sonja Aldén, Lisa Nilsson, and Måns Zelmerlöw. In 2024–2025, she joined pop star Magnus Carlsson as a background vocalist on his anniversary tour “It’s My Party”.
In addition to singing on stage, Sandra took on other roles related to entertainment. She worked as an entertainer on cruise ships and also taught singing at a music school in Sweden. For a while, she managed a swimming center in Stockholm. She has also competed in triathlon races, showing her energetic spirit beyond music.
Today, Sandra still performs and teaches music, and she continues to live in Stockholm, Sweden. Sandra has said she would be happy to make a comeback as a solo artist if the right opportunity comes.
