Biography

NAPA, formerly known as Men On The Couch, is a Portuguese indie pop and indie rock band hailing from Madeira. Formed in 2013, the group comprises five members: João Guilherme Gomes (vocals and guitar),Francisco Sousa (guitar), João Rodrigues (drums), Diogo Góis (bass) and João Lourenço Gomes (piano).

The band’s origins trace back to a basement in Madeira, where four friends bonded over their shared passion for music.

Initially performing under the name Men On The Couch, the band composed songs in English. In 2019, they released their debut album, Senso Comum, recorded at BlackSheep Studios in Sintra. This project was notably funded through a crowdfunding campaign, raising €3,528 without the backing of major record labels.

In 2023, the band rebranded as NAPA and released their second album, Logo Se Vê, on May 26. This album showcased a more mature sound and featured collaborations with artists such as Beatriz Pessoa on the track “Gigantes” and Silly on “Assim, Sem Fim.” The compositions incorporated diverse musical elements.

The year 2024 marked a significant milestone for NAPA as they embarked on their first national tour, performing in various venues across Portugal. The tour’s success was highlighted by sold-out shows, demonstrating their growing popularity. To cap off the year, they released a concert film titled O Mundo Continua a Girar, recorded over two sold-out nights at Lisbon’s Maria Matos Theatre, further cementing their status in the Portuguese music scene.

In 2025, NAPA participated in Portugal’s esteemed music competition, Festival da Canção, with their song “Deslocado.” The track is an ode to their Madeiran roots, reflecting the experience of living “displaced” on the Portuguese mainland. Their performance lead them to victory and earning the honor of representing Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
