Biography

Early life and musical education

Eva Marija Kavaš Puc was born on 24 December 2005 in Luxembourg. She grew up in a multilingual and multicultural environment. Her parents are of Slovenian origin. Her father comes from Ljubljana, while her mother is from Beltinci in northeastern Slovenia. This background influenced her cultural outlook and musical interests from an early age.

Music became part of her life at a very young age. At the age of three, she watched the Eurovision Song Contest and saw Alexander Rybak win with Fairytale in 2009. Inspired by this performance, she asked to learn the violin. Soon after, she started formal music lessons.

Eva Marija later enrolled at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg. There, she studied violin as her main instrument. In addition, she trained in singing, piano and bass guitar. Her education covered classical music as well as jazz and contemporary pop. These years laid the foundation for her versatility as a musician and performer.

First steps as a performer and songwriter

During her early teenage years, Eva Marija began performing in public. By the age of 14, she already appeared on stage as both a singer and instrumentalist. These performances helped her gain experience and confidence in live settings. At the same time, she started writing her own songs. Songwriting quickly became a central part of her artistic identity. Her lyrics often focus on personal emotions, relationships and self-reflection. Rather than aiming for commercial trends, she focused on authenticity and storytelling.

After completing her secondary education, Eva Marija decided to continue her musical development abroad. She moved to London to study songwriting and music-related subjects. Living in an international city exposed her to different musical scenes and influences. As of 2026, she continues her studies there alongside her professional career.

Early releases and growing profile

Eva Marija released her first original music in the early 2020s. Her debut single “When 2 Lovers Meet was released in 2021. The song introduced her as a young singer-songwriter with a calm and emotional style.

In 2023, she released “Toxic Trait”. This song showed a more mature sound and lyrical depth. It marked a clear step forward in her artistic development. Two further releases followed in 2025, “TIME TO GO and “Sweet Child. These songs reflected her growing confidence as a writer and performer.

During this period, Eva Marija gained recognition within Luxembourg’s music scene. She stood out for combining vocals with live instrumentation, especially the violin. Gradually, she built a reputation as a serious and dedicated artist rather than a short-term project.

Selection for the Luxembourg Song Contest 2026

In 2025, Eva Marija was announced as one of the participants in the Luxembourg Song Contest 2026. This national final selects Luxembourg’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. Interest in the contest was high, as Luxembourg had only recently returned to Eurovision after a long absence. Eva Marija competed with the song Mother Nature. She co-wrote the song together with Maria Broberg, Julie Aagaard and Thomas Stengaard. Stengaard is an experienced songwriter with a strong Eurovision background.

From the first live performances, Mother Nature attracted attention for its restrained and emotional approach. Eva Marija focused on delivering the message of the song rather than on visual effects. Her performance style emphasised connection and sincerity.

Winning the national final

The final of the Luxembourg Song Contest 2026 took place on 24 January 2026 at the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette. Eight artists competed in the show. The voting consisted of an international jury and a public televote. After the first round, three songs advanced to the superfinal. Eva Marija qualified with strong support from both the jury and the public. In the decisive round, her song received the highest combined score. By winning both voting groups, Eva Marija was selected to represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. The result marked the most important achievement of her career so far.

Mother Nature and Eurovision 2026

Mother Nature is an English-language pop song with introspective lyrics. Musically, the song blends contemporary pop with organic elements. Her instrumental background influences the overall sound, even when the focus remains on vocals and atmosphere. The arrangement supports the song’s message rather than dominating it.

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, Luxembourg will compete in the second semi-final in Vienna. Eva Marija represents a new generation of Luxembourgish artists on the Eurovision stage.

Career outlook

Although Eurovision brings international exposure, it forms only one part of Eva Marija’s broader career. She continues to focus on songwriting, musical education and live performance. Her development so far shows a steady and consistent artistic path.

With Eurovision 2026 ahead, Eva Marija enters a new phase in her career. Her journey from early musical training to representing Luxembourg internationally reflects long-term dedication rather than sudden success.
