Biography

Bianca Shomburg is a German singer from Hiddenhausen, near Bielefeld, in North Rhine-Westphalia. She was born on 17 September 1974. Before music became her full-time job, she worked in public administration. However, she wanted more than a safe office career. In the mid-1990s, she stepped into television talent shows and quickly moved into professional music. That decision changed her life and opened the door to a career in pop, live entertainment, and later country rock.

Breakthrough on television

Her first big break came in 1996. At 21, Bianca Shomburg took part in RTL’s Soundmix Show and beat 17 other contestants. After that, she represented Germany in the European Soundmix Show. There, she won with a version of Céline Dion’s “Think Twice.” The victory brought her a recording contract with producer Harold Faltermeyer. Soon after, she released her debut single, “I Believe in Love.” So, within a short time, she moved from local singer to a new national name in German pop.

The next step followed very quickly. Ralph Siegel signed her and gave her the song “Zeit.” In February 1997, she won the German national final Der Countdown läuft with a clear televote result. That win sent her to the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. On 3 May 1997, she represented Germany there and finished 18th with 22 points. Eurovision became the best-known moment of her career, but it was only one chapter. At the time, she had just left her secure job behind and had chosen music completely.

Eurovision and solo releases

After Eurovision, Bianca Shomburg stayed active as a solo singer. In 1997, she released the English-language album It’s My Time. It remains her only solo album. She also released the single “Only Your Love” and kept recording new material. Official chart data shows a catalogue that included “Zeit,” “Time,” “I Believe in Love,” “Ich lieb dich mehr,” “Ich glaub’ noch immer an Wunder,” and later “Zeig mir das Licht” with Eric Brodka. Therefore, her post-Eurovision years were busy, even if the big chart breakthrough did not last.

She also stayed visible on German television. In November 1998, she performed “Ich lieb’ dich mehr” on ZDF-Hitparade. Then, in January 2000, she appeared in the year-end edition with “Ich glaub noch an Wunder.” These appearances showed that she still had a place in the German schlager and pop world. Even so, her career slowly moved away from the mainstream charts. Later, she said that the uncertainty after Eurovision hurt more than the final result itself.

A new musical direction

After about two years in close work with Ralph Siegel, Bianca Shomburg changed direction. She realised that soul, rock, and handmade live music suited her better than classic schlager. That shift shaped the next part of her career. Instead of chasing chart positions, she focused more on performance and musical variety. By 2020, she was still working full-time as a singer. She also performed with the event band Graffiti, appeared with the jazz formation B-Flat, and worked on her own songs in the studio of musician and producer Björn Diewald.

That change gave her more freedom. It also helped her build a stable career outside the old Eurovision image. In interviews and local profiles, she came across as an artist who had learned from the late 1990s and who no longer wanted to stay inside one genre. As a result, her later work became broader and more personal. She remained active on stage, kept developing her voice, and built a strong reputation as a live singer in the Bielefeld area and beyond.

Nashfield and recent work

Around 2008 and 2009, Bianca Shomburg entered another new phase. Together with Björn Diewald, she launched the country-rock project Nashfield. Country.de reported that she was a big fan of modern country music and that the duo had already written many original songs and performed them live. After years of work, Nashfield released the album One in September 2013. The record included original songs as well as a country version of “Zeit.” So, instead of leaving her Eurovision past behind, she reshaped it in a new style.

Today, Bianca Shomburg still appears to be active in music. A current Graffiti band page lists her as a professional singer and highlights Eurovision, the Soundmix win, and her ZDF-Hitparade appearances. In addition, Apple Music lists the solo single “Count the Stars,” released on 24 September 2025. At the same time, a 2024 country music report says that Nashfield had ended while work on a second album was still under way. Taken together, these facts show a singer whose career did not stop after 1997. Instead, she kept moving, changing, and performing.
