Early Life and Family Background

Antigoni Scarlet Buxton was born on March 9, 1996, and raised in North London in a family of Greek-Cypriot heritage. She is the daughter of Tonia Buxton, a well-known Greek-Cypriot TV chef and presenter, and Paul Buxton, an English fitness enthusiast and architect. Growing up, Antigoni was immersed in both British and Cypriot cultures at home, speaking English and Greek fluently. This bicultural upbringing instilled pride in her heritage and later influenced her musical style. Antigoni also has three younger siblings. 

Music Education and Early Songwriting

Antigoni’s passion for music began in her teens. She started writing her own songs as a teenager, channeling her personal experiences into lyrics and melodies. For formal training, she attended the prestigious BRIT School in London. The BRIT School, famous for alumni like Adele and Amy Winehouse, helped Antigoni hone her vocal skills and stage presence. Her time there gave her a strong foundation in performance and songwriting. By age 20, Antigoni’s talent caught the attention of major industry figures. She was signed to Island Records at 20 years old by Darcus Beese.

Signing with Island Records and First Musical Efforts

Joining Island Records in 2016 marked Antigoni’s entry into the music industry. Under the label, she collaborated with seasoned songwriters and began crafting her signature style. Antigoni’s sound in this period was a vibrant mix of pop and R&B, often blended with Mediterranean influences and Greek instrumentation. During her Island Records years, Antigoni recorded several tracks and built experience in professional studios. Songs like “2 Steps” and “Boosting” were among her first releases. However, her path at Island changed when the executive who signed her departed the company. This shift led Antigoni to rethink her career direction. She chose to forge her own path as an independent artist.

Independent Music Career and Sirena Records

When she left Island Records Antigoni founded her own label, Sirena Records, around 2018. This allowed Antigoni full creative control over her music and image. She reportedly invested part of her previous record deal earnings to finance her independent projects. Under Sirena Records (where she is the sole director), Antigoni began releasing a steady stream of singles and music videos on her own terms. These early independent releases built her catalog and online following. Notable tracks from this period include “Hit List,” “This Ain’t Love,” “Way Too Much,” and “Never Gonna Love.” Each song showcased a different facet of her style. Antigoni cultivated a niche fanbase and proved her versatility as a singer-songwriter. Her mix of R&B rhythms with Greek melodic touches set her apart in the UK music scene, and she frequently incorporated bilingual (English and Greek) lyrics that reflected her identity.

Antigoni Buxton’s discography features several singles that have defined her artistic journey. Among them, “Red Flag” (2022) stands out as a breakthrough. Released in April 2022, “Red Flag” is an energetic pop track built around the idea of spotting warning signs in a new relationship. The song infuses modern pop beats with Greek-inspired instruments, highlighting Antigoni’s effort to merge her cultural sound with mainstream music. She even hosted a lively launch party for “Red Flag” in London underscoring the buzz around the single.

Another notable single is “Lie Lie” (2024), a dance-pop anthem that offers a more emotional narrative. In “Lie Lie,” Antigoni chronicles the struggle to rebuild trust after betrayal in a relationship. The lyrics convey her feelings of heartbreak and uncertainty after discovering disloyalty. Television Appearance on Love Island (2022)

While building her music career, Antigoni gained nationwide fame through reality TV. In the summer of 2022, she joined Love Island UK Season 8 as a bombshell contestant. Then 26 years old, the curly-haired singer entered the hit ITV2 show on Day 17, immediately turning heads with her outgoing personality and musical talent. During her stint in the villa, Antigoni went on dates with several fellow islanders. Though she only spent about a week on the show,being voted off on her 9th day, she left a strong impression.

Her time on Love Island significantly boosted her public profile in both the UK and Cyprus. The show introduced Antigoni to millions of viewers, many of whom became curious about her music. Despite the elimination, she used the exposure to her advantage, directing new fans to her songs and social media. Antigoni later reflected that Love Island gave her a platform, but music was always her primary focus. Indeed, after 2022 she returned her attention fully to songwriting and recording.

Antigoni Buxton has cultivated a vibrant public persona that combines glamour with approachability. Often described as upbeat and down-to-earth, she engages actively with fans on social media. On Instagram, where she initially had around 68,000 followers at the time of Love Island, her fanbase has since expanded to well over half a million. She posts updates about her music, snippets of her life, and tributes to her Greek-Cypriot roots. Antigoni’s Instagram feed and YouTube videos often feature bilingual captions and even her family’s Greek traditions, endearing her to fans in both the UK and Cyprus.

On TikTok, Antigoni leverages viral trends to promote her music. For example, she teased her 2022 single “You Can Have Him” by posting a dance challenge clip, even involving fellow Love Island alumna Paige Thorne in a video at Notting Hill Carnival. These upbeat posts showed her fun side and helped the song gain traction upon release. Antigoni’s social media presence is carefully managed yet genuine. She often replies to comments and shares behind-the-scenes glimpses of her studio sessions, gym workouts with her father, and family gatherings. This openness has earned her a loyal following. 

Eurovision 2026 – Representing Cyprus

In November 2025, Antigoni Buxton achieved one of her lifelong dreams: she was selected to represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. The Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC (RIK) announced her internal selection on November 6, 2025, making Antigoni the very first confirmed artist for Eurovision’s 70th edition. The news was revealed via a joint Instagram post by CyBC and Eurovision officials, and a press release calling Antigoni “a modern voice for a new generation of Cypriot music”.
