Biography

Fanny Biascamano (16 September 1979 – 27 December 2025) was a French singer and author. She was born in Sète, in the department of Hérault, in the south of France. Despite her short life, she built a career that touched millions of people across France and beyond. She left behind a legacy of music, live performance, and writing.

A Star Is Born at Twelve

Fanny first came to public attention in 1991, when she took part in the “Numéro 1 de demain” segment of the popular TF1 variety show Sacrée Soirée, hosted by Jean-Pierre Foucault. She was just twelve years old. Her performance of Édith Piaf’s rock hit “L’Homme à la moto” earned her a record deal, and the single reached the top seven in France and earned a gold record. Furthermore, the single went on to sell over 3 million copies in France and Canada. That same year, she released her debut self-titled album, Fanny, along with a second single, “Un poète disparu”. It was a remarkable start for someone so young.

Building a Discography

Following her strong debut, Fanny continued to record and perform. In 1993, she released her second album, Chanteuse populaire, written in part by Didier Barbelivien, though its success was more modest than her debut. She also released further singles during this period, including “P’tit Paul” in 1994. Over the course of her career, she released a total of four studio albums. Throughout the mid-1990s, she kept performing at galas and live events across France, steadily growing her fanbase and refining her stage presence.

Representing France at Eurovision 1997

In 1997, Fanny reached an important milestone in her career. France 2 internally selected her to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin with the song “Sentiments songes”. At 17 years and seven months, she became one of the youngest representatives at that year’s contest. She finished seventh in the final with 95 points. The experience brought her international exposure and remains one of the most remembered moments of her career.

A Return to Studies and the Stage

After Eurovision, Fanny made a deliberate choice to step back from the spotlight. She retreated to her studies and participated in galas rather than chasing mainstream fame. However, she never fully left music behind. In 2008, she embarked on an international tour performing covers of Édith Piaf’s songs. She also released a live album in 2009, which featured those same Piaf covers. This tour showed that her love for French chanson tradition ran deep, and it introduced her to new audiences around the world.

Writer and Author

Beyond music, Fanny also developed a passion for writing. In her later years, she became an author and published three books, with the two most recent being cookery books covering Southern French cuisine. This creative shift showed a different side of her personality and her strong connection to the culture and flavours of her home region. She embraced this new chapter with the same dedication she had always brought to her music.

Legacy and Passing

Sadly, Fanny Biascamano passed away on 27 December 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 46 years old. Fans across France and the wider Eurovision community shared their grief on social media. She left behind a body of work that spans pop music, live chanson performance, and literature. Fanny Biascamano will be remembered as a true daughter of southern France; passionate, talented, and far too briefly with us.
